Hidemaro Konoye Bibliothek Projekt
The objective of this project is to study and preserve all the materials pertaining to the late conductor/composer Hidemaro Konoye currently in the hands of the Konoye Foundation of Music. We believe the project will provide a basis for studies related to Konoye in the future, and that carrying out minute analyses and observations of the archival materials will lead to a better understanding of Konoye’s musical activities and where he stands in the history of modern Japanese music.
Key archival materials include works Konoye has composed, arranged or re-arranged, as well as letters of correspondence, manuscripts, concert programs and collection of books. Hidemaro Konoye remains a pioneering figure in the history of classical music in Japan, who, as a conductor, composer and arranger played a prominent role in promoting orchestral works in Japan. This project will certainly shed light onto the legacy of Konoye, one of the first Japanese conductors to achieve international renown.
